What is The Personal Barber Shaving Club?

Every 6 weeks, we curate a selection of only the finest wet shaving gear from all over the world, introducing you to the lesser known brands and small businesses that you don’t see in the supermarkets.

Our latest kit is the “Extra-care box” which will be going out to renewing subscribers between November 16th – December 31st. With this kit we usually feature products that aren’t usually associated with shaving but provide the extra piece of the male grooming puzzle such as a top quality moisturiser and pre-shave wash or scrub.

Valloloko Terracotta Warrior Shaving Soap RRP £9.95
Valloloko is an artisan soap maker from Düsseldorf, Germany, that focuses on handmade products lovingly made using natural ingredients and delicately balanced fragrances. Their Terracotta Warrior soap was made especially as part of a fresh batch for The Personal Barber club members and is suitable for vegans.
Using the finest quality essentials oils of tangerine and carrot combined with natural red clay gives this soap a subtle citrus scent with earthy tones whilst also making it perfect for sensitive skin.
It has been made using the cold process method so it’s a very dense soap that requires a little extra water but the resulting lather is abundant, cushioning and leaves the skin feeling well moisturised.
As with all shaving soaps and creams the scent will only last during your shave. Once you’ve washed it off, it doesn’t linger long so it won’t interfere with your choice of aftershave.
To use: Work the top of the shaving soap with a damp shaving brush until it’s fully loaded (10-15 seconds) and then start building your lather as normal either in a bowl, your hand or directly on your face. This soap can take a bit of extra water so if it seems too thick, keep adding drops until the desired consistency is acquired. You want to aim for a shiny meringue-like consistency
You can also pre-soften the soap beforehand for a quicker lather by adding a few drops of warm water to the soap and letting it soak in for a minute (Leave it soaking whilst showering).

Professor Herb Mandarin, Basil and Lime Day Cream RRP £14.99
Professor Herb is a new male grooming brand from Yorkshire based around the legacy of Herbert Henry Watkins, a 19th century chemist who gained renown for his innovative and unique skincare items. Made with a nod to the original formulations, the Prof Herb range is made using natural ingredients.
This moisturising cream delivers hydration to the skin whilst locking in and retaining moisture to maintain a healthy complexion and soft skin. Mandarin comes packed with antioxidants and Vitamin C, helping to fight free radicals in our skin. Myrcene, which is naturally produced in basil has anti-inflammatory properties that make it well suited for a regular shaver.
Rather than a cream, it has a gel-like consistency which allows it to be quickly absorbed without leaving a greasy feeling.
To use: Take a small pea-sized dollop of cream and massage gently into your face morning and night. If you're using it in your shaving routine alongside a post-shave balm (which we recommend you do) then apply this day cream after your post-shave balm has had a chance to absorb, roughly 1 minute)

Sukin For Men Facial Scrub RRP £8.95
Sukin are an exciting skincare brand from Australia that has a large and varied range of products held to the highest ethical standards. Their focus is on creating naturally derived (no parabens, synthetics, sulphates etc), cruelty free and vegan products. And to top it off their formulations are carbon neutral, biodegradable and grey water safe!
This face scrub has been formulated specifically for men’s skin to remove a build-up of dirt, oil and dead skin cells using the natural, grainy texture of bamboo powder and walnut shells. Perfect as part of a pre-shave routine to lift up hairs to prime them for shaving and leave a smooth surface for the razor to glide over for an even shave. Sesame and Jojoba Oils work to moisturise and soften skin, while leaving it refreshed and purified.
The masculine blend of Cinnamon and Citrus smells amazing and refreshes the senses for the day ahead.
To use: Before shaving, very gently massage a small dollop into your stubble using your fingertips. Rinse off before adding your shaving lather. It’s important to be gentle and not to press the scrub into your skin as this can lead to over-exfoliation. Less is more when it comes to face scrubs!

Voskhod and Derby Premium Replacement Blades
Voskhod are a Russian made brand that are known to be very forgiving and provide great shaves for all beard types, despite being above average in sharpness. Lasts 3-7 shaves depending on beard thickness.
Derby Premium blades are made in Turkey using premium Swedish steel with a range of coatings (chromium, ceramic, platinum, tungsten and polymer) to increase blade life and glide. They’re slightly sharper than the original Derby Extras and with better longevity, these are excellent blades. Last 3-6 shaves.
