What is The Personal Barber Shaving Club?
The Personal Barber is the curated shaving subscription that wants to turn your daily chore into a satisfying experience to look forward to.
We passionately believe that making the switch to a single-blade razor will change your whole outlook on shaving. Our latest kit in the Discovery box subscription is the “Post-Shave Box” which will be going out to renewing subscribers between November 16th – December 31st.
On top of a new shaving soap and restock of 10 blades, this kit always features a post-shave balm to help calm the skin after shaving and promote the healing process so it feels comfortable all day long. We also usually showcase a solid cologne in this kit which we believe is one of the most exciting new products that every gentleman must try.
We also have a smaller sized box, called the Essentials box, that features just the latest picked shaving soap/cream and a restock of 10 DE razor blades. This is for members that want to try new soaps and creams but would rather pick their own extra products. You can add any additional items to your Essentials Box without incurring extra postage fees.

The Personal Barber Nutcracker Shaving Soap RRP £9.95 (Discovery and Essentials Box)
We’re incredibly excited to unveil this brand new shaving soap, made in collaboration with the fantastic artisan soap maker Twa Burds Soaps, based in Glasgow.
Twa Burds Soaps specialises in handmade products using natural ingredients without added parabens or unnecessary preservatives.
We wanted to do something a bit different for the last box of the year so we asked the team if they could create a bespoke scent for our subscribers that encapsulates the feeling of Christmas.
The soap has a vegetable glycerine base making it suitable for all skin types but also makes it very easy to create a lather out of. In seconds you’ll have a dense, cushioning lather that moisturises the skin, leaving a great post-shave feel.
The nutcracker scent is a rich fragrance with lemon rind, orange and clove followed by a heart of roast chestnut, caramel, pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg on a base of raisin, sandalwood, oak, sugar and nutty vanilla.
The scent of shaving soaps and creams are designed to be enjoyed only during your shave. It’s a rinse-off product so the scent doesn’t linger long and therefore won’t interfere with your choice of aftershave.
To use: Work the top of the shaving soap with a slightly damp brush until it’s fully loaded (10 seconds) and then start building your lather as normal either in a bowl, your hand or directly on your face. If it seems paste-like, keep adding drops of water until the desired consistency is acquired. You want to aim for a shiny meringue consistency.
Ingredients: Aqua, propylene glycol, sodium stearate, glycerin, sodium laureth sulphate, sodium laurate, sorbitol, sodium xylenesulphonate, stearic acid, lauric acid, titanium dioxide, tetrasodium EDTA, tetrasodium etidronate, parfum, benzyl alcohol, coumarin.
Bart’s Balm Ben Macdui Aftershave Balm RRP £7.99 (Discovery Box only)
Bart’s Balm is an artisanal male grooming brand from Scotland that create small batches of handmade skin loving products.
Each balm is formulated using natural ingredients chosen specifically to help combat shaving rash and nourish your skin. In particular, the balm uses high quality argan oil for its unparalleled soothing, calming and moisturising properties. This is then combined with the moisturising and anti-inflammatory properties of coconut and grapeseed oils for an all-round dose of skincare nirvana.
Featuring their Ben Macdui fragrance which is a warm and masculine scent that balances a blend of rosemary, sandalwood, patchouli, lavender, vetiver and rose.
To use: Immediately after shaving, apply 1-2 pumps of balm onto slightly damp skin and massage until fully absorbed.
Ingredients: Aqua, Caprylic/capric triglyceride (Light coconut) oil, Grapeseed oil (Vitis vinifera), Argan oil (Argania spinosa), Glyceryl stearate, Glycerin (Veg), Stearic acid, Cetyl alcohol, Phenoxyethanol & Ethylhexylglcerin, Vitamin E (Tocopheryl acetate), Frankincense oil (Boswellia carterii), Sodium bicarbonate, Parfum, Alpha iso methyl ionone, Benzyl benzoate, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Hexyl cinnamic aldehyde, hydroxycitronellal, Limonene, Linalool.
Solid Cologne Project Gaffer Solid Cologne RRP £15 (Discovery Box only)
The Solid Cologne Project is an an artisan fragrance brand from Aberdeen making high quality scents for men in our favourite form; the solid cologne!
If you’ve not used a solid cologne before, it’s an alcohol-free and water-free form of aftershave that is portable and discreet to apply. You can easily carry it with you and reapply as needed, we suggest every 4 hours or so.
Unlike most colognes that use alcohol to hold the fragrance, this cologne is made from a luxurious blend of bees wax, shea butter, almond oil & carefully chosen parfum which means it won’t dry out your skin but in fact keep it moisturised as well as smelling great.
All the scents in their range have been inspired by the Scottish landscape. The Gaffer scent is an intense aromatic fragrance opening with fresh top notes of apple and citrus fruits that are balanced with a warm spicy middle note dominated by geranium, cinnamon and cloves. In the base notes, dry spicy scents of sandalwood, vetiver, cedarwood, olivewood, amber and musk create a distinctly masculine cologne.
Remember with fragrances that they develop over time and mix with your natural musk so don’t judge it directly from the tin. You’ll notice the depth of the cologne after it’s been on your skin for a few minutes.
To use: Gently rub your finger over the balm and then apply to your pulse points such as your wrist, neck and behind your ears. We use the pulse points because they heat up the cologne, making it last longer. Want a stronger scent? Use the back of your nail to scrape off a larger quantity. The more you use, the stronger it will be.
Ingredients: Prunus Dulcis Oil (Almond Oil), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Parfum, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, limonene, Cinnamic aldehyde, Citral, citronellol, eugenol, geraniol.
Gillette Silver Blue and Astra Superior Stainless Replacement Blades (Discovery and Essentials Box)
The Gillette Silver Blue are another fantastic blade made in St Petersburg, Russia that are sharp whilst giving a consistent shave with great longevity. Each blade lasts 3-7 shaves depending on beard thickness with most getting an average of 5.
Last month we featured the Astra Superior Platinum blades, this time we’re featuring their blue counterpart for comparison. The Superior Stainless version is a bit sharper than their green counterparts with slightly reduced longevity. Originally made in the Czech Republic, production was moved to Russia once the company was bought by Gillette. Lasts 3-6 shaves per blade.
